Small stable strong in Group One

Somervell Lee 7810s (427x640)Quality and not quantity is serving Cambridge trainer Lee Somervell well.

Somervell (right) is chasing Boxing Day’s big Ellerslie prize, the Gr. 1 $200,000 Zabeel Classic, with Addictive Habit and Celebrity Miss and he is pleased with both horses going into the weight-for-age event.

“They are both very fit and well and we’re proud to have two runners in a Group One race from a small stable,” said Somervell.

Livamol Classic winner Addictive Habit was a solid last-start fourth under 62kg at Te Rapa where the winner, Seize The Moment, had an 8kg weight advantage.

“He really needed that run and he was doing his best work at the finish,” said Somervell.

Celebrity Miss goes into the Zabeel Classic fresh from her eighth behind Stolen Dance (a race rival again on Saturday) in the Gr. 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa. She was dropping back to 1600 from the 3200 of the New Zealand Cup and will appreciate the step up to 2000 metres this time.

“Celebrity Miss’ work has been very good and she pleased me with her fourth at Te Rapa,” said Somervell.
