Cambridge strikes at jumps finale

The final jumps day of the season saw horses from the Cambridge area claim four of the prizes at Te Aroha. Hunters Creek and Nancho Lass both won jumps races, Borninthesandpit won the amateur riders’ event and No Need looked good winning a maiden.

CD raids prove rewarding

Trips to the central districts proved rewarding for Cambridge trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young in late September when winning at Otaki with Caorunn and at New Plymouth with Curragh. Graham Thomas also enjoyed success on his trip to New Plymouth with Mangaroa Flo Jo.

Memorable day for Mitchell

The Tauranga meeting on September 23 was a special occasion for Cambridge horsewoman Tarissa Mitchell. The former successful apprentice jockey notched her first training success with Call Me Royal, adding to a big day for Cambridge stables with wins by The Tilbury, Mime and El Luchador.

Dad and Shaune, not Dad and Dave

It was a day for father and son in the winner’s circle at Avondale on September 19 as Frank Ritchie saddled up Aaja Nachle to win then his son, Shaune, chimed in with Promises. Congratulations to the two Cambridge trainers.

Manning celebrates Taupo double

A double for Ralph Manning and wins for fellow Cambridge trainers Tony Pike and Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman were highlights of the Taupo September meeting.

From Ruakaka to Matamata — success again

Chop Chop was the Cambridge star at Ruakaka on September 12 and four days later Hes Callingcalling and Buffalo Lass chimed in at Matamata with more success for the Cambridge centre.

The Craig Thornton-trained Nancho Lass started the ball rolling at Rotorua for Cambridge and Heath capped the run with El Disparo chiming in between times.

Five in a day at Te Rapa

Cambridge stables hit Te Rapa on September 9 with a bang, winning five races on the card with a treble to the country’s champion trainers, Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman.

Early September success

Halong Bay, a newcomer to the Lee Somervell stable, started September off well for Cambridge with a win at Tauranga and Illuminati credited Cambridge apprentice Zy Nor Azman with a memorable win a day later at Ellerslie.

Good weekend for Cambridge

Eight winners over the weekend continued the flow of successful horses from the Cambridge centre.

With three winners at Hastings’ Premier meeting, a couple at Ruakaka and three at Sunday’s Te Aroha fixture there were plenty of happy people at the track the next morning.
