Track Work 7 July 2020

Horses and trainers were greeted with extremely tough weather conditions, meaning only a handful of gallops took place on the No. 2 grass this morning.

The Stephen Marsh stable will no doubt be heading to Ellerslie this weekend with an in-form team and some very nice chances.

One of those, APPELLANT, looked in fine order this morning as she completed 800 metres in a tick over 54, cruising through the line in 39.1. She ticks a few boxes ahead of the weekend. She clearly likes Ellerslie and also the sting out of the ground and certainly will get that this weekend. She was impressive when winning a recent trial at Te Rapa.

Another Marsh runner to show readiness for a competitive return this weekend was RITANI. The 5yo MAKFI mare is another who enjoys Ellerslie and the softer going, and she too trialled up super recently.  She went over 1000 this morning in 1.08, 40.4.

KAIPAKI ROAD looks another who can be right in amongst it this weekend.  She was scratched last weekend after copping a dreadful draw but that may be a blessing as another good gallop this morning will certainly do no harm.  She strode out comfortably over 1000 in 1.08, home in 39.2 under a tight hold.  She’ll appreciate the footing and although she’ll get over more ground throughout her upcoming prep, she’s ready to run a nice race fresh up.

The Baker/Forsman duo RED BEACH and ELLE EYE ARE have been working well the last few weeks and again looked in fine order this morning. They galloped 1000 in 1.08, 39.6. They’ll be fit and ready fresh up this weekend.

RIVERFALLS had POWERFUL MOSS for company and they cut out 1000 in 1.09, 39.7.

The Pike pair RIVER RUN and TIPICAL went 1200 in 1.20, 40.5.  RIVER RUN, who always works well, will be one to watch for.

MALIK and SHE’S A LADY also went 1200, running their final 600 in 39.7.  Anything under 40 late in the morning was a good effort on very testing footing.

Others timed were as follows:

HIGHTAINE 1000 in 1.09, 40.6 | DIVINE DIVE 600 in 39.3 | RIPPEDEEDOODAH 800 in 55, 42.7 | ANGELINA LAURO and an EKRAAR 4yo 800 in 54, 39.5 | SHACKELTONS EDGE and ARYLL 1200 in 1.24, 40.6.
