Big Mike set to end campaign on a high

Big Mike ran another honest race last Saturday and will be trying to go two better this coming weekend.

Trainer Craig Phelan is looking for a breakthrough victory with Big Mike in his final start across the Tasman this coming Saturday.

Phelan has experienced a solid Victorian campaign with the consistent galloper who races in Australia as Our Big Mike.

A son of Don Eduardo, Big Mike has recorded two placings from as many starts in Australia in the last month and will line-up in the Pakenham Cup (2500m) on Saturday.

“We’ll probably bring him home after that,” stable representative Emily Farr said in an interview from Australia.

His connections were pleased with his third-placing in the Adapt Australia Handicap (2040m) at Moonee Valley last Saturday and are hoping he can go two better this weekend.

“At Moonee Valley he was very good,” Farr said. “He was tough and brave as always.

“The Pakenham Cup is a little bit further. Hopefully he’ll just stride along in front and they might not be able to pick him up this time.

“He seems to have come through his latest race very well. He loves it over here which is great. He’s a good traveler and is very happy.”
