Track Work 4 April 2019

Stablemates and weekend race rivals PEACEFUL and ESPRESSO MARTINI showed they are ready to give race favourite DAWN PATROL a stern test, when completing preparations for the Pyramid Trucking 1400 at Te Aroha on Saturday.

Working on an improving course proper, rated slow, the pair went at a nice gallop and appeared on level terms through the line as they clocked 1.23 for 1200, home in 38.8. PEACEFUL looks to be getting back to her best, while last start winner ESPRESSO MARTINI looks to have only improved, and any easing of the track would be of assistance.

Although both not favoured by early market prices, both HIGHLAD and NICOLETTA were ultra-impressive when clocking the fastest time of the morning. Also on the number 1 grass, they completed their 1200 in 1.19, coming home in a very tidy 36.2.

They too would derive benefit of any rain, but nonetheless look as if a big performance would not be beyond them. HIGHLAD has won his only start over 1400, also in a fresh state.

POWER O’HATA went alone and stopped the clock at 1.08, 37.6. She looks well placed on Saturday in the First Credit Union 1200.

A big run from 15 time race winner and the winner of just shy of $500k, SAINT EMILION would not surprise as he topped off his preparation for a crack at the J Swap Contractors Te Aroha Cup. Working over 1400, the big grey left behind 1400 in 1.32, before striding out nicely over the concluding stages to record 36.7 for his last 600. He strikes a small field which he could potentially lead and control and may well prove difficult to get past.

On the back sand (right handed), a pair of James/Wellwood runners completed their weekend rehearsals in good order, working individually. Group 1 hopeful CONCERT HALL went 1.23 for 1200, home in 39.3. DREAM ON did similar, going 1.20 and 38.3.

Trio of Marsh runners did their chances no harm when completing sand gallops ahead of their respective Saturday races. SANTA CATARINA came home in 44.7. She goes in the Te Aroha Veterinary Services 1400. As a three year old filly she’s not well off at the weights, but has class on her side and should give it a big shake.

SAVAPAK deserves a break through and looks well placed to do so in the Te Aroha Liquor 2200. He rolled home in 43.7. RAPOSA RAPIDA cruised through the line in 44.3, another in good order.

Hawtin runners for Sunday at Pukekohe, PITCH AND SWITCH and IT’S DOABLE, completed three quarter pace gallops on the plough. PITCH AND SWITCH was timed from the 800 in 51.8. She draws well and seems ready to produce a strong fresh up performance.

IT’S DOABLE went 55 for 800. She strikes a decent field but will certainly come on greatly with the run on Sunday.

Other times recorded on the sand were as follows:
ON THE BALL | DARCI QUE | SHOWBEEL 800-58, 600-41.3
FOOGAYZEE 800-58, 600-44.1
SAMIRA | BIRDSONG 800-57, 600-41.3
LONG JACK | QUICK THINKER 800-56, 600-40.6
QIJI MELODY | THOMAS AQUINAS 800 55, 600-40.7
