Track Work 12 September 2019

With only a small amount of Cambridge horses entered for the weekends racing, a very quiet morning of gallops took place.

The clear pick of the gallops took place on a slow No. 4 grass, where Baker/Forsman duo MONGOLIAN MARSHAL and CUTADEEL produced an eye catching piece of work.

With markers out near the outside fence, meaning quick times aren’t easy to come by, they travelled sweetly throughout their 1400 metre assignment. Timed from the 1000 in 1.07, they kept up a nice tempo throughout and were full of running past the post, running their last 600 in 37.7.

They both look to be spot on for Hastings next week where they will contest the Group 1 Windsor Park Plate and although MELODY BELLE will be red hot favourite, if draws are favourable, they both look ready to run big races.

Another Baker/Forsman duo to produce an outstanding piece of work were SMART AS YOU THINK, and highly promising 3 year old BIRDSONG.

Working on the No. 2 grass with markers out 7 meters, they were clocked over 1000 in 1.05, home in 37.1. BIRDSONG looks ready to contest the Hawke’s Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes next weekend in what will be a step up, but certainly looks up to the task.

IN FASHION, who races at Ruakaka this weekend, rounded off her final work in nice style. She was timed in 1.11, home in 41.1. She lines up in a tidy Cambridge Stud Northland Breeders Stakes field and draws awkwardly, but looks to be in good order so a cheeky race certainly wouldn’t surprise.

ZACADA worked alone also, as he cut out 1600, timed from the 1000 in 1.07, 40.2. He made steady ground after being outpaced over a mile at Hastings, so the step up to 2200 on the weekend looks right up his alley.

ARETHA ran her 1000 in 1.12, 41.7. She looks in good order also, and the way she puts herself in the race, she’s one to look out for wherever she lines up.

PACORUS looks to be coming to hand nicely, going 1400 this morning in 1.36, increasing his work gradually and lengthening stride nicely to work home in 38.4. He also contests the Open 2200 – Northern Districts Security Ruakaka Cup.

MR INCREDIBULL went 1000 in 1.10, home in a comfortable 40.2. He looks a promising type and was a little unlucky last time at Ruakaka.
