Track Work 3 March 2020

It will take either a very handy galloper or bad luck to see SWORD OF FIRE get beaten at his next start. The five year old SEBRING gelding, who recently returned to the NZ racing scene after three starts in Singapore, produced an eye catching gallop this morning.

On a plough track which didn’t seem to be at its quickest, SWORD OF FIRE broke that trend by putting 800m behind him in 49.7, cruising through the line in an impressive 36.5.

Another to impress was the Ross McCarroll trained INSCRIPTION. She went 1400m in 1.32, and stylishly finished off in 36.8. She didn’t have all favours in the Matamata Veterinary Services Kaimai Stakes, getting way out of touch with the leaders on a day it was difficult to make ground. She’s one to have a look for next time.

Last start winner FLOMILINE looks to have bounced through that very well when completing her 6 furlong gallop in 1.18, home in 38.

Stablemate SHERRIF, who has always shown well above average ability, followed over the same workout distance in 1.20, 39.1. He also was a last start winner, and has only been out of the top five in his races once in his ten starts to date.

VEE CECE, who ran a big race in the Property Brokers Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes WFA F & M 1600 before another very tidy run at Matamata, showed she’s ready for her next up assignment at Trentham when cutting out 1000 in 1.05, 38.2.

RONDINELLA looked in superb form this morning. She was timed over 1400m in 1.38, running home and looking strong well beyond the post, clocking 38.3 for her final 600m.

FELAAR wasn’t asked for time as he continued his Barfoot and Thompson Auckland Cup preparation. Clocks were on from the 1600m although he worked over much further, doing it nicely, running home in 42.1.

A trio of promising two year old fillies from the Baker/Forsman team – ONEROA, SAFE PASSAGE and SHANDIVA, were timed over 800m in 54.5, 39.1. All looked to be doing it well. SAFE PASSAGE was a very impressive winner at the recent Avondale trials.

TRUE ENOUGH retuned 1.53 for 1600m, 41.2 for 600m. He looks a treat and seems to be going as well as ever.

ELATE, who seems one to go quick times, certainly did look good in doing so this morning. She will be an exciting prospect when she gets up over ground. She went 1200m in 1.21, 37.2.

YATIMA also caught the eye over 1000m in 1.08, 38.7.
