Action galore promised at winter meeting

Local trainers are well represented at the Cambridge Jockey Club’s winter meeting at Te Rapa on Wednesday and they should not go home empty handed.

Jumps races make up a third of the programme and the Anderson Accounting Steeplechase will see the Roger and Sheryl McGlade-trained Karlos return to the scene of his Waikato Hurdles win of last year, while his opposition will include four members of Ann Browne’s team as well as Brett Pollock’s capable Onekaykaraka.

Cambridge rider Shelley Houston looks well placed to start the day on a high note with Waitoki Ahi, who has taken to jumping very well for Te Aroha trainer Kevin Cullen.

Central districts stables are also well-represented and it would be no surprise to see the Allan Sharrock-trained Pascoe Brown, in the hands of top jumps rider Isaac Lupton, take the honours in the second event.

Many eyes will also be on the Gary Alton-trained Macka’s Back in the second of the juvenile event, while fellow Cambridge trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young will be looking for a win by Emerald Green in the first of the “baby” events.

All in all, the day promises to be one of plenty of thrills so don’t miss out. Be part of the Cambridge Jockey Club’s winter meeting.
