Better luck in Kewney?

Shaune Ritchie is hoping to restart Let Her Rip’s autumn campaign in Saturday’s Gr. 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

The Cambridge trainer is treating her first-up ninth in the Gr. 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a fortnight ago as a non-event after Let Her Rip was pocketed when looking likely to make a late bid to figure in the finish.

“She never got to extend a gallop at all which is a great shame because she’s got such an effective record first-up,” said Ritchie. “Her second-up record is atrocious, but I guess the question is was it more like a barrier trial than a race for her. It certainly wasn’t a tough run.

“There’s a little bit of rain forecast in Melbourne this weekend which will help her chances as well, so it’s just a question whether she’s still having her first-up run this weekend.”
