Blow me down — local meeting derailed

The Cambridge JC meeting at Te Rapa today has been abandoned due to high winds collapsing the running rail.

At 12.05pm it became apparent that a substantial portion of the running rail had had fallen over in the front straight due to strong wind gusts.

The programme was initially put back by one race to investigate possible solutions and during that time part of the rail again was blown over.

With high wind gusts being forecast for the remainder of the afternoon, the decision was made to abandon today’s meeting.

NZTR are currently working through options to reschedule the meeting. The meeting will not be rescheduled in the next 48 hours, but is likely to be run later in the week if practical.

A decision will be made as soon as possible tomorrow morning.
