Cambridge Duo Plots Another Australian Trip

Seasoned trans-Tasman travellers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are preparing for another Australian raid.  Plans have been confirmed for their progressive galloper Adepto to head over with a possible travelling partner. “He will be on a plane there in three weeks’ time for a Rating 75 three-year-old race that’s worth $A85,000,” Busuttin said.

“It’s all about the stake money and we can get him over there for $5,000. He will dodge the best three year olds as well – they’re either out spelling or in Brisbane.”

Wowowow, who ran fifth when recently resuming at New Plymouth, may also join Adepto on the trip. “If he wins (at Ellerslie) on Saturday then he’ll probably be on the plane as well,” Busuttin said. “He’s capable of being competitive in Australia on the wet tracks.”

Adepto booked his ticket when he posted his second career victory at the expense of the stakes winner Salamanca at Awapuni last weekend. “He should have won his first start as well,” Busuttin said. “He ran second to Chambord in his first trial at Te Teko where he jumped and led and didn’t learn anything and in his second trial the jockey fell off going to the start.

“He was very rank and inexperienced in his first (raceday) start at Avondale and got beaten a head and then he won and came out at Awapuni and won again as we thought he would.

“He’s a smart horse and he’ll go through the grades to stakes company. He’s by Bachelor Duke and can handle the wet and go on top of the ground.”
