Classic contender makes bright start

New Zealand 2000 Guineas nominee Mongolian Khan made the perfect start to his career at Te Rapa this afternoon. Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman’s handsome Holy Roman Emperor colt was a stylish winner over 1400 metres. “He’s a beautiful horse – a lovely looking animal,” Forsman said.

That reflected in his auction price after he realised $220,000 out of Regal Farm’s Ready to Run Sale draft at Karaka last year. He is a son of the Centaine mare Centafit and a half-brother to the Gr 1 Wellington Cup winner Young Centaur.

Mongolian Khan beat his stablemate Zvonareva at Te Rapa and the stable expects the runner-up to go one better in the near future.
