Coldplay in action News Year’s Day

Coldplay (Craig Grylls), pictured winning the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes, will now have another Group Two feature as her next step.

It didn’t take the connections of in-form Cambridge mare Coldplay long to make a decision on her Zabeel Classic prospects.

Coldplay landed barrier 14 in the Gr.1 $200,000 event when acceptances closed at 10am yesterday and that was enough to see her withdrawn from the feature.

Coldplay promised to be hardest to beat in the weight-for-age events after being unbeaten in her three starts this season, including the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes and the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes at her last two starts.

But having to cope with the outside draw from the 2000-metre barrier was going to be tough to handle and instead trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman have opted for one of the features at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.

Coldplay will now have her next start in the Gr.2 $100,000 Rich Hill Mile over the same distance at which she has won her last two outings.

All going well, she could get her Group One opportunity in the Harcourts Thorndon Mile at Trentham on January 28. She is also nominated for the Gr.1 Herbie Dyke Stakes at Te Rapa on February 11.
