Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh sees tomorrow’s Gr. 1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie as a prime opportunity to enhance Thee Auld Floozie’s stud value.

Four-year-old mare Thee Auld Floozie, already a Group Three winner of last year’s Sunline Vase (2100m) at Ellerslie, indicated she was striking form for the 2000-metre weight-for-age feature at the right time with a stout-finishing last-start second in the Listed Kaimai Stakes (2000m) at Matamata last month.

“She may be a little bit out of her grade, but I never thought it was going to be a race with a lot of depth,” said Marsh. “There’s a couple of nice ones obviously, but I think she gets her chance to be Group One-placed.

“As we know, if a mare can be Group One-placed they are worth a hell of a lot more as a broodmare. Her run last start for second was very good. She got held up a vital stage and that was her first run over ground this time in. She’s improved from there.”
