Guru Girl Continues Winning Form

This calendar year has been one to savour for the connections of Ishiguru’s capable daughter Guru Girl.

They celebrated the mare’s third win for 2014 when she defied her topweight to score at Ruakaka on Saturday.

Trained by Craig Thornton, Guru Girl has previously won at Matamata in January and the following month she claimed the Wairarapa Cup.

She was freshened before resuming with an unplaced run in the Gr 2 Travis Stakes and she’s improved again ever since.

Successive placings at Te Rapa, one of them a runner-up finish in an open handicap, preceded her Ruakaka victory.

Under topweight of 59kg, Guru Girl came from last at the 500 metre mark with a sustained finish to score by a head.

Thornton later completed a notable double when he rode Indikator to a hard-fought victory in the Awapuni Hurdles.
