Instant success for top trainers

Ashvin Goindasamy timed his run to perfection when winning on Ladynadel at Matamata yesterday.

Cambridge apprentice Ashvin Goindasamy couldn’t ask for a better result when riding for top trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman for the first time at Matamata yesterday.

Goindasamy, who is indentured to Ralph Manning, was entrusted with the mount on the talented mare Ladynadel in the Noble & Lee 1600 and he made the most of the opportunity.

After bouncing Ladynadel out well, he settled her into the perfect trail and angled her one-off the inside rail with 500m and soon after moved her out further to issue her bid.

Taking a while to wind up, Ladynadel got into top gear inside the final 200m and flashed home down the outside with a late charge to grab victory right on the line, beating runner-up Lady Painton by a nose.

The win has resulted in Goindasamy losing his 4kg claim, but the manner in which he is riding he should be well-sought after as a 3kg claimer.

Ladynadel (Ashvin Goindasamy) about to nab Lady Painton on the line in an exciting finish at Matamata yesterday.

Ladynadel was bought by Baker for Tauranga owner Bill Luff for a mere $20,000 at the 2016 Select Yearling Sales and her half-sister by Sacred Falls fetched $210,000 when bought at Karaka last January.

Ladynadel has been a model of consistency, winning four races and being placed 10 times from 16 starts.

She has won twice this campaign, the earlier win being at Waverley last month, and she has been placed in each of her other three appearances this season.

She stepped up to 1600m for the first time after finishing third to Lucyinrio and Contessa Vanessa over 1300m at Trentham on December 8 and looks destined to go even further.

A daughter of Savabeel and the first foal of the Pins mare Nadel Dame, Ladynadel is closely related to Our Abbadean, the winner of seven races including the Gr.2 Awapuni Cup and the Gr.2 Travis Stakes and twice Gr.1 third, in the Tarzino Trophy and fresh-up in the Captain Cook Stakes behind Danzdanzdance at Trentham last Saturday.

She is also from the family of 2005 Singapore Horse of the Year Currency.

A half-brother by Rock ‘n’ Pop to Ladynadel is amongst the Seaton Park draft in Book 3 at Karaka on February 3.
