Cambridge Group One winner Sacred Elixir will resume his New Zealand career in the NZB Karaka 3YO Mile at Ellerslie on January 29.

Trainer Tony Pike has decided on the Listed event to open the top three-year-old’s Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby preparation. The son of Pour Moi will then tackle the Gr.2 Avondale Guineas on February 18 as a Derby lead-up.

“A mile fresh-up should be ideal and he will only need a quiet trial or an exhibition gallop beforehand,” said Pike.

Runner-up last start in the Gr.1 VRC Derby, Sacred Elixir will also make a return trip across the Tasman for the Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas on March 18 and the Gr.1 Australian Derby a fortnight later.
