Manning team for Dunedin

Cambridge trainer Ralph Manning (pictured) is considering a tilt at the $45,000 Listed Dunedin Casino Gold Cup with Peace Lily following her comfortable win at Tauranga last Saturday.

“There’s a rough chance she could go down,” said Manning after watching Peace Lily race away to a four and a half-length win in the Speight’s 2100.  “The Cup is over 2400 metres and that will suit her.”

Manning is also considering taking the three-year-old Innovation to the same Wingatui meeting on February 4 with her mission being the $45,000 Listed Dunedin Guineas (1400m). Innovation has won once from four races and was a last-start runner-up at Stratford.

Both horses are raced by The Oaks Stud, whose general manager, Rick Williams, was on hand for last Saturday’s win by Peace Lily.

Peace Lily credited James McDonald with his first success as a senior rider and it could not have come in easier fashion. She was fourth on the outer in the five-horse field, swept to the front across the top and cleared out to beat fellow Cambridge galloper Arcenciel, who fought well.

Peace Lily has now won six times from 31 starts and her last two victories have both been at Tauranga.
