Marsh Goes Close to Juvenile Double

Stephen Marsh was narrowly denied a memorable two-year-old double at today’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.   He won the opening event with Lime Street and then saddled another first-timer Mia Street to finish runner-up in the next race. “They are both really nice fillies and we couldn’t have been any happier with them and expected forward showings,” the Cambridge trainer said.  “They could be back there for the Gold Trail Stakes, this race fits in quite well and then they can have brief let-ups.”

A daughter of Iffraaj from the family of the Group winner Tour Blade, Lime Street was a previous trial winner at Avondale, where she beat the race winner and stakes placegetter Serein.

Mia’s Choice, who also claimed her 800 metre heat at Avondale last month, was a $72,500 Karaka yearling and is from the Eight Carat family.  “She’s by O’Reilly out of a Zabeel mare, the same cross as Silent Achiever, and she’s a lovely filly and she’ll be quite valuable if she can get some black type,” Marsh said.
