Minor setback rules out Sydney

Pike Tony TJHPlans to contest the Gr. 1 A$600,000 Rosehill Guineas in Sydney on Saturday have been ruled out for Derby placegetter Raghu after a blood test was taken.

Zac Purton had been engaged to ride Raghu in Saturday’s Rosehill feature and the horse was scheduled to be flying to Sydney this week.

“We ran a blood and it wasn’t quite right so we’ve called Sydney off,” said trainer Tony Pike (pictured). “It was too much of a risk to send him over. Everything has to be spot-on.”

The plan was to contest the Rosehill Guineas and if Raghu could finish in the first four he would press on for the Gr. 1 ATC Derby.

Though Sydney is now out of the picture for Raghu, he could still get to Australia this season.

“I’ll be talking to his owner to decide whether we look at Queensland, but he can have a break for the meantime,” said Pike.
