Cambridge owner-trainer Michael Wallace wasn’t surprised by Baymax’s upset win at Te Rapa last Saturday.

The Cambridge horseman fancied the dour five-year-old’s chances, despite him going out at odds of 22-1 in a six horse field, and said the extra trip was the key.

“It was the mile and a half and a good ride,” said Wallace. “He just needs the distance as he’s such a genuine staying type.

“I’ll see how he comes through it and he may have one more run. I don’t think the wet tracks will worry him so we might have a go in the winter.”

Baymax led all of the way in the hands of Mark Du Plessis to down the well-supported Zacada.
