Ready to jolt punters again

The addition of headgear has been the making of Jolt, who will be out to maintain his unbeaten record at Rotorua tomorrow.

“Early on he didn’t show a lot, but once we put the blinkers on him he won a trial and then his first start,” said Cambridge trainer Mark Brooks. “They’ve really switched him on.”

Jolt was a comfortable debut winner at Matamata when ridden by Trudy Thornton, who will again take the mount in the First National Rotorua Handicap.

The four-year-old will appreciate an increase in distance from 1400 to 1560 metres and he is expected to be even better suited to a further step up in trip in the future.

“He‘s come through his last run well and the Shockings do go over more ground,” said Brooks.

Brooks is also confident of bold showings at Rotorua from Sisterella (Mills Reef Winery 1230) and Star Vinsky (NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race).

Sisterella won two trials before she made her debut last month at Ruakaka, where she finished an unlucky fifth.

“I thought she would win until she got cut up with 200 to go,” said Brooks. “She should be hard to beat.”

Star Vinsky is also a lightly-tried four-year-old with a win and a last-start placing at Matamata from four appearances.

“She’s done well and she should go close with a bit of luck in the running,” said Brooks.
