Diademe and Sports Illustrated may be on a Sydney-bound flight on Wednesday evening.

That’s a possibility for the Cambridge stablemates after they provided trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman with the quinella in the Gr. 1 Fiber Fresh NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha last Saturday.

Baker is contemplating sending for the pair to join him in Sydney and line up in next Saturday’s Gr. 1 A$1 million Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

“We’ve left them both in the Queen Of The Turf and they’ll both get a start,” said Baker. “I’ve got to discuss it further with the owners and I’ll see how they do in the next day or so. There’s a flight coming over on Wednesday night and they can be on that.”

Diademe provided her Mount Maunganui-based owner, Scott Richardson, with his first Group One triumph last Saturday and Richardson is happy to go along with whatever decision Baker makes.

“Murray makes the decision and if he wants to take her over I’m happy with that,” said Richardson.

Sports Illustrated’s owner-breeder Gary Chittick is already in Sydney for the sales and Baker was yesterday tracking him down to discuss the Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

“I’m keen to get her over here,” said Baker. “As well as the Queen Of The Turf Stakes there’s a 1400-metre maidens sprint at Scone at the end of the month which is an option.”

Sports Illustrated did well to finish a neck behind Diademe, who broke a 24-year-old track record when taking the Te Aroha feature.
