The trip wasn’t as far and the result was much better for Cambridge mare Teena Rox when she competed at Ruakaka yesterday.

Teena Rox trekked to the South Island for her previous start, at Riccarton on April 16, and had no luck at all in the running. After being slow away, she was crowded and had to be restrained in the early stages then was held up for a run in the home straight before finishing fifth, less than three lengths from the winner.

Freshened since that lengthy trip, Teena Rox was taken to Ruakaka for the David Cairns 2100, a Rating 65 event, and, reunited with rider Alysha Collett, she delivered the goods for trainer Ralph Manning and owner-breeder, The Oaks Stud.

Collett had the mare trailing fourth or fifth, angled her out in the home straight and wound her up late to come with a well-timed finish to win by a head from Raaj.

Collett had also been aboard in Teena Rox’s other win, at New Plymouth last December over 1800 metres.

For Manning, the win was his 14th for the season, just two short of his tally in each of the last two seasons and from far less runners. He also won with Enjoy The Ride at Rotorua last Saturday.
