Top gallop by Madison County

Madison County (Matta Cameron) clear of Dawn Patrol when leading home a Cambridge quinella in the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

Smart Cambridge three-year-old Madison County continued his preparation for another Group One contest when doing an exhibition gallop between races at Matamata yesterday.

Ridden by regular rider Matt Cameron, Madison County worked with the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby winner Vin De Dance and was clocked over the 1000m in 1:01.3 with the last 600m in 34.8 seconds.

Madison County, winner of the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas, worked clear of the less-forward stablemate Vin De Dance (ridden by Jason Waddell) and was under a good hold by Cameron.

“He did it easily and felt great,” Cameron said.

Madison County, prepared by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, is on track for the Gr.1 $225,000 Levin Classic (1600m), the Trentham feature on January 12 in which he is the $3.50 favourite on TAB Fixed Odds betting.

Vin De Dance, who last raced when unplaced in the Cranbourne Cup in October, is likely to trial at Cambridge on January 8 to bring him on for a return to racing.
