Track Work 19 December 2019

HOLY MONGOLEMPEROR looks set to break maidens this weekend at Te Rapa, as he starts his build up towards the Vodafone NZ Derby, over 1400 meters. Although not asked for time in his final hit out this morning, he looked in great order as he rounded off his 800 metre gallop in 55.3, working alone on the No.2 grass.

Last start runner up, WINKLEBELLE, looks set to be a major player at 2200m, a distance she’s won at previously. With main rivals drawing poorly, she gets her chance third up this preparation. She galloped superbly this morning when clocked over 1000m in 1.02, rattling home in 36.6.

On the sand, stablemates and race rivals CRAFTY JESS and HINERANGI, showed their readiness for the weekend with a very nice piece of work. Timed over 1000m in 1.08, home in 38.5. Both are on the quick back up, having both raced at Te Rapa last weekend with contrasting fortunes. CRAFTY JESS winning, while HINERANGI was unlucky after copping a bad check. Both look well placed in this.

Class performer CHOCANTE, back after a long break, looks to be coming to hand nicely. Although 1400m will clearly be short of his best, he did look capable of running a cheeky race when working over 1000m on the course proper. He rolled home in 39.8 for his last 600m.

CONCERT HALL has again copped a wide draw for her tilt at the Aberdeen on Broadway Manawatu Cup. If the rain comes, maybe it’ll play into her hands after drawing barrier 14. She ran 800m on the sand in 58.8 and looks in fine order.

Stablemate LONDON BANKER, another to have drawn poorly, steps out over 2200m and looks ready to do so. Another to work three-quarter pace, running 800m in 58.1, home in 42. The draw makes it a tall task, however.

REDCAYENNE could be a sneaky second up chance at odds, after producing very impressive work on the No. 2 grass. Timed over 1000m in 1.03, home in 37.1. He meets a handy field but a big effort wouldn’t surprise, after watching him stretch out nicely this morning.

SO WICKED, who’s been working very nicely for a month or so now, topped off her prep for the weekend with a quiet 800m in 59.1. If the rain comes as expected tomorrow, it brings her right into calculations.

Trio of last start winners COCO BACI, DARCEE QUE and SNOWDEEL all look horses to follow as they step up over further. They were timed over 1000m in 1.06, home in 38. All were doing it nicely.
