Track Work 5 March 2020

A relatively quiet morning took place on a seemingly holding plough surface, while the sand assisted with a few gallops also.

The lightly raced but hugely talented SHERRIF, who the Roger James/ Robert Wellwood Partnership have some decent targets in mind for, looks very well placed at Trentham this weekend. He looks to back up a superb fresh up victory and certainly looks ready to do so. He carries 54kg in a small field. He hardly looked to be extended this morning when timed over 1400m in 1.31, 44.7.

YATIMA backed up her nice Tuesday gallop with an 800m top up, running her last 600m in 44.3. She’s been working well for a while and although Saturday’s race will be short of her best, she can get some of it. She looks a nice place chance.

RONDINELLA takes on a superb Group One field in the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes. She did things easily this morning on the back sand, clocked over her last 1000m in 1.12, 44.1. Her last start disappointment was a surprise and she’s continued to work well.

FELAAR is at peak fitness for his long term target, the Barfoot and Thompson Auckland Cup. Some handy staying types from across the Tasman have come to spoil the party, however, he’s not out of it. His run in the Joe McDonald Avondale Cup was superb and a great lead in to this. He was timed over his last 600m in 42.9.

Consistent gelding MASTER PARK, who has been runner up three times out of his last four starts, rounded off his weekend prep going 800m in 55, 40.3. He does carry weight but looks a chance and has recent form on the course.

SHOWBEEL heads to next weekend’s Al Basti Equiworld NZ Oaks. She won’t lack fitness and she certainly looks as though she’ll appreciate the 2400m, which is always the query for the three year old fillies. She went 1000m in 1.11, 42.

MIDNIGHT MAGIC, after a superb run against the pattern of the day at Matamata last time of asking, will need luck from the draw but is another who can show up. She drops back to 1200m for this. She ran up over 1000m in 1.17, 43.1.

RIVERFALLS and LANDRY were the two gallops to break 40 this morning. They went individually. RIVERFALLS stopped the clock in 39.4, and LANDRY not long after clocked 39.2.

ELATE worked on the sand and went 1000m in 1.15, 41.4. As mentioned on Tuesday, she will be one to watch once she gets over further.

Others to work and last 600m times;

O’HE CAN 44.8
