Pre-race Valley visit for Ruud Awakening

Ruud Awakening, last season’s NZ Champion Two-Year-Old, will get a preview of what lies ahead when she heads to Moonee Valley next week.

The top Cambridge filly will have her second-up run in the Gr. 3 $A150,000 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday week and Marsh is keen to let her check out the course before raceday.

“She’s based at Russell Cameron’s stable and he has arranged it so she can go into Moonee Valley next Tuesday to work,” said Marsh. “It works in perfectly with the race three days later and it’ll be a good chance to see how she goes around that track. I think it will suit her.”

Marsh is currently in New Zealand and has left Troy Harris in charge of Ruud Awakening, but he will be back on hand for the track gallop next Tuesday.

“I’m looking forward to Friday week’s race,” said Marsh. “She’s doing so well over there. She’ll still take some slight improvement from it, but she’ll be very competitive. She needed that first-up run and it’s brought her on a lot.”

James McDonald rode Ruud Awakening when she finished fifth fresh-up over 1100 metres at Flemington on September 7 and he will again ride the filly next Friday.

“He’d been booked for the other horse but he sought permission to be released so he could ride Ruud Awakening,” said Marsh. “That gives us a bit more confidence.”
