Former Kiwi jockey Michael Walker has been snapped up for Group One-winning Cambridge mare Sofia Rosa when she resumes on Saturday week.

Walker, who is making his mark in Melbourne, will ride the Australian Oaks winner when she resumes in the Gr. 1 NZB Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

Sofia Rosa hasn’t raced since she won the Oaks in Sydney last autumn,, but has pleased trainer Stephen Marsh during the early stages of her build-up toward the Gr. 1 Caulfield Cup.

On a similar path is the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-prepared Tavago, who stayed across the Tasman following his Gr. 1 Australian Derby success last April and underwent six weeks pre-training with Leon and Troy Corstens.

Tavago wasn’t pressured when second in a jump-out at Cranbourne on Monday morning.

Ben Melham has been confirmed to ride Tavago when he clashes with Sofia Rosa in the Memsie Stakes.
