Cambridge stable firing second round this weekend

Murray Baker will unleash round two of his early attack on the Sydney Carnival at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Last weekend Baker saddled up Gr. 1 NZ 2000 Guineas winner Atlante to finish a meritorious second behind Dissident in the Gr. 2 Hobartville Stakes and this weekend his attention is focused on the stable star, (It’s A) Dundeel, who will contest the Gr. 1 A$500,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

The third member of the task force from the Cambridge barn of Baker and Andrew Forsman is Show The World, the Gr. 1 ATC Derby hopeful who will resume in the Gr. 1 $A600,000 Royal Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday week when clashing with Atlante.

“I’m happy with all three horses,” said Baker. “Atlante is not a wet-tracker and he was under the pump from the 700 metres. He was being ridden along to stay in touch and it was a huge effort to run second. He hadn’t run for four months.

“He’s come through it well and will start next in the Randwick Guineas and we’ll decide after that whether or not to go on for the Rosehill Guineas. It’s unsure whether he’ll get 2000 at this stage.”

Glyn Schofield will again ride Atlante at Randwick, while Nash Rawiller has the mount on Show The World, who hasn’t started since he won the Gr. 2 Sound Championship Stakes (2100m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.

“The Randwick Guineas will probably be too short for Show The World, he’s going to be better-suited in the Rosehill Guineas and the Derby,” said Baker. “But he’s absolutely thrived over here. He looks great.”

Baker is also thrilled with the progress made by Dundeel since he won at the Randwick trials last Monday week and is expecting a big run on Saturday when James McDonald will again have the mount.

“He’s more forward than he was for the Hobartville Stakes first-up last year,” said Baker. “He ran on a heavy track in that race and flashed home for fourth behind Pierro. It was a huge run and I’d say he’s fitter going into this one on Saturday.”

It’s A Dundeel’s main target this campaign is the Gr. 1 A$4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 19 and beforehand he will start in both the Ranvet and BMW Stakes.
