Jumper on Northern Path

Amanood Lad will be staying closer to home in his preparation for his main target – the Great Northern Steeplechase at Ellerslie. The talented Cambridge jumper has had one unsuccessful trip away and trainer Ben Foote has no plans for another.

He has ruled out a start in this Saturday’s Wellington Steeplechase after consulting fellow trainer Tony Cole. “I rang Tony, who I used to ride for a bit, and had a chat to him,” he said.  “I’ll wait for Te Rapa the week after Wellington and then go for the Pakuranga Hunt Cup and the Northern.”

Amanood Lad won the McGregor Grant Steeplechase two runs back before failing in trying conditions at Awapuni in the Manawatu Steeplechase. “He went too hard early and he wasn’t seasoned enough on that track,” Foote said. “He’s well and goes out to the Browne’s place once a week to work up the hill.”
