Kapsboy Adds Another to Family Record

Well related galloper Kapsboy will always live in the shadow of his sibling, but he’s doing a fine job nevertheless. The son of Ishiguru won for the sixth time in his career at Tauranga today to equal the tally of his half-sister Fleur de Lune.

The now-retired mare was the class act of the family though with a Gr 1 Railway Stakes to her credit and several top-flight placings. “He’s got a long way to go to match her (Fleur de Lune),” said trainer Lee Somervell.

Kapsboy, who was placed in the Listed Ryder Stakes at two, raced on the pace at Tauranga and led early in the run home. The four-year-old had a fight on his hands from the game pacemaker Guru’s Spirit before he prevailed by a narrow margin.

“The apprentice allowance came into it and it was a good effort in a tight finish,” Somervell said.  Kapsboy was ridden by stable employee Ulrika Holmquist and provided her with her seventh winner in her first season of riding.
