Moochi Me is one out of the box

Darrell Lang enjoyed Group One success as a jockey and has saddled up several smart gallopers as a trainer, but he is quick to rate Moochi Me as “special.”

Moochi Me, a three-year-old filly by Dubawi, looked promising when winning at the Te Teko trials on May 1 and took the step up when convincingly winning her debut at Te Aroha yesterday.

Ridden by Michael Coleman, who had also been aboard in her trials win, Moochi Me was well-supported in the Karkl Davis Bayleys Real Estate 1200 and lived up to her reputation when winning comfortably from another talented Cambridge galloper, Alicudi.

“She’s a bit special,” said Lang, who trains her in partnership with his father, Roger, and races her with his mother, Sheryl, and Ann Rutten.

“I’ve never had one as good as her. We leased her with a right of purchase and we’ve had some huge offers for her.

“If we do sell, I want to keep a share. I don’t want to let this one go.”
