Switch To Brisbane Cup For Historian

The $A300,000 Gr.2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on Saturday week has become the new focus for Gary Alton and his two-time Group One winner Historian. The Cambridge trainer had intended to start the Choisir gelding this weekend, but he has been forced to change tack.

Historian was to have taken his place in the $A250,000 (2200m) Eagle Farm Cup until a minor set-back upset those plans. “He’s had a bruised heel and I just ran out of time,” Alton said. “I worked him on the treadmill this (Thursday) morning and he’s coming right again now.”

Historian was unplaced in his Australian debut in the $A125,000 Gr.3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) at Doomben.

Alton said the six-year-old should be better-suited to a longer trip at the Eagle Farm track.
