Sum Up left no doubts about his fitness for Saturday’s Hawkes Bay Cup when working on a dead No.2 grass at Cambridge today. The markers were out two metres.

Sum Up (Gillies) worked over 1600 metres and was timed from the 1400m in 1:35.6, the 1000m in 1:6 and the final 600m in 38.7. He ran a creditable fifth in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie and should be most competitive at Hastings.

Race rival Guns at Five (Gatu) was also in good form when completing 1200m in 1:20, sprinting the last 600m in 36.8. C’est Magnifique (Reid), another entered for Saturday’s feature, travelled well throughout his gallop, completing his last 600m in 53.9.

Russianov (Cleland) impressed when running 1000m in a fast 59.9, dashing the final 600m in 35. He will strip fit for his weekend engagement. Bravado (Gatu) did his weekend prospects no harm when covering 1200m in 1:18, the final 600m in 36.1.

In form Kelly O’Reilly (Smith) was clocked from the 600m in 38.6. Debut winner Divine Star (Macfarlane), who races at Hastings on Saturday, worked in nicely from the 800m in 53.2. Popeye Braggins (Marshall) was timed over 600m in 39. Absolutely Sacred (Donoghue) worked in from the 800m in 55.4. Little Alfie Brown (Satherley) was sent 1200m at three quarter pace, quickening over the last 600m in 39.

Aurora Lights (Harris) left 1200m behind in 1:20.2, finishing off in 38.9. Jacks Run (Cropp) came to the end of 1200m in 1:19.4, coming home in 37.6. Zonza (Dalley) and Waikeria (McGorrian) worked well together over 1200m in 1:15.6 sprinting the 600m in 35.8.

Rollout The Carpet (Du Plessis) cut out 800m in 49.2. Petrified (Hughes) and Casino Park (Bradley) maintained a solid pace from the 800m in 48.2. Rasado (O’Shea) and The Final Straw (Thornton) followed in 48.7. Romeo Whisky (Hutton) and Port Elizabeth (Burgess) were together throughout 1200m in 1:16.2 sprinting the 600m in 35.6.

Ata Boy (Hills) was in good form when running 800m in 48.3. Buckles (Smith) and Jackwin (medium weight) left 600m behind in 36.3. Rebound (Dalley) strode 1000m in 1:10, finishing off in 37. Allure (Reid) and Green and Gold (McGorrian) were timed from the 600m in 36.8.
