Track Work 14 February 2019

Schweppes Avondale Guineas favourite CUTADEEL and stablemate as well as weekend race rival THE CHOSEN ONE, completed their final preparations this morning for the traditional lead up race heading towards the NZ Derby.

Working on a back plough which produced some fast times, they matched strides over 1200 metres in 1.23, completing an impressive last 600 in 37.9. CUTADEEL looks to make it 4 wins on end, whereas THE CHOSEN ONE is second up over ground, and looks over the odds.

MONGOLIAN MARSHAL, BOBBY DEE and GUNDOWN also produced an eye catching final gallop. Timed over 1200, they went 1.19, before quickening nicely to round off their last 600 in 37.6.

GUNDOWN looks well placed in the Coca-Cola Avondale Cup with 52kgs on his back. Any easing of the firm ground would be a huge favour to him.

HANGER produced one of the more impressive gallops in recent memory, when sizzling over 1000 in a tick over 1.03, home in an impressive 35.1. He potentially heads to Otaki next weekend and would certainly be one to follow.

SPRING DELIGHT looked to be doing things well in blinkers when working alongside last start winner KONSTANTINA. They went 1200 in 1.20, home in 38.

RUBIRA, who heads to Ellerslie after a tidy fresh up fifth at Te Rapa, went 1200 in 1.21, home in 38.3.

Also entered for the same race, and race rival for the second weekend straight, the Stephen Marsh trained TIGHTLIGN, completed 1000 in three quarter work, going 1.14, 44.2. He was unlucky at Te Rapa and should be spot on with the quick back up.

QUEEN OF DIAMONDS did things well like usual, cutting out 800 in 54, finishing off in a comfortable 39.1.

VISCONTI and NORDIC went 1000 in 1.08, rounding off in 38.9. PODRAVINA strode out a comfortable 800 in 54.

Class filly SANTA CATARINA looked bright when going 1000 in 1.11 and 41.7. SHE DARES went over a mile in 1.51, before working in nicely for her final 3 furlongs in 38.4.

RAPOSA RAPIDA went 800 in an easy 59 and 44. McEDITH did similar, going 58 and 44.

ROCANTO, who drops back in grade and who has worked very well since being gelded, came in from the 600 in 39.7. Look for him to be competitive.

FIREFLY topped off his preparation for Ellerslie going 1000 in 1.13, home in 42. VEE CECE and CLEMENTINA went 1000 in 1.08, 38.2.

POPPY STAR and PLAYWRITE were timed over 1200 in 1.22, rounding off in a quiet 44. HETTY went 58 in his 800 metre work.

On the sand JIMMY ROCKET went 2 rounds before being timed over his concluding 600 in 41. SAVAPAK followed soon after going 800 in 58.6. He contests the strong r72 Stella Artois 1600 at Ellerslie.

SURELY SACRED heads to the Schweppes Avondale Guineas along with stablemate RIPPA EAGLE. They went a quiet 600 in 44.5.

EVER LOYAL, who went a big last start second fresh up in the Concorde handicap, topped off his preparation for the Dunstan Feeds 1200 going 600 in 42.
